As demand for high-performance computing and AI workloads accelerates, data centers are facing tightening grid constraints and increasing interconnection delays. For Aligned Data Centers’ Hillsboro campus, securing timely and reliable power was a critical challenge: one that traditional grid upgrades would take years to address.

As demand for high-performance computing and AI workloads accelerates, data centers are facing tightening grid constraints and increasing interconnection delays. For Aligned Data Centers’ Hillsboro campus, securing timely and reliable power was a critical challenge: one that traditional grid upgrades would take years to address.

Aligned has partnered with Calibrant and Portland General Electric (PGE) to think outside the box, delivering a first-of-its-kind flexibility resource to energize the campus years earlier while supporting grid reliability. Using Calibrant's Path to Power framework, the three parties co-designed a battery solution calibrated to both PGE’s flexibility needs as well as Aligned’s reliability needs. This is a scalable approach that shows how data centers, utilities, and solution providers can collaborate to unlock flexible and reliable capacity without waiting for lengthy and costly grid upgrades.
