To overcome these constraints, Aligned engaged Calibrant to think outside the box and design a first-of-its-kind flexibility resource to energize the data center campus years earlier than it otherwise could interconnect, all the while supporting grid reliability. By deploying a large-scale battery system, Calibrant is helping Aligned Data Centers transform its campus from a potential grid liability into a dynamic grid asset, acting as a shining example of how data centers can be “good grid citizens” and help support their local communities. We refer to this approach as our Path to Power solution: a structured framework for enabling data centers and utilities to co-design flexibility assets that support grid reliability and improve system efficiency, in exchange for shorter interconnection timelines, larger grid connections, and/or accelerated load ramps.
